HISTORY

In 1966, Ernest G. “Pete” Peterson and a small group of investors formed Lansing Lumber, Inc. and opened for business at 211 North Main Street. Pete acted as general manager and grew the company into a well‐respected anchor of the business community.

By the early 1980’s, Pete and his wife Barbara had become sole shareholders of the company. They were joined by their oldest son Jon, who had recently graduated from college with a degree in business management. With Pete as President, Jon as Vice-President and Barbara as Secretary/Treasurer the company continued their growth and success throughout the 80's and 90's.

In 1998, the Peterson’s second son Patrick joined the company and established the home plan design and drafting division of the family business. Patrick was also appointed as Vice President while Jon became President of the company. This move allowed Pete and Barbara the opportunity to travel and enjoy their grandkids while their sons took over the day to day operations of the company.

The Peterson brothers grew the company over the next decade, continuing the tradition of providing quality building products and exceptional service. The company enjoyed record sales and successes throughout much of the 2000’s. They survived the great housing bubble of 2008 and were poised for even greater success as the company approached a half-century in business. Then tragedy struck. In late 2012 Jon was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. He bravely fought for months but sadly succumbed to his disease in March 2014. He was only 53 years old. It was a devastating blow to the company.

Patrick assumed the helm of President and forged ahead with the help of his long‐time employees and the support of his family. Along with the many years of experience gained working alongside his father and brother, Patrick is also an educated and trained residential designer and fully licensed building contractor. His knowledge and commitment to customer service continue to be the basis on which the company is operated.

In 2017, Patrick’s wife Leslie joined the company and spear‐headed the company’s newest offering – animal nutrition products. This division of the company has experienced rapid growth which is directly attributed to Leslie’s vast knowledge and dedication to her clients. Focusing on quality animal nutrition and specialty products for equine, canine, cattle and other animal needs, Lansing Lumber Farm & Feed is proving to be a destination company for animal owners throughout northeast Kansas and beyond!
